Ousmane Sylla and Onyi Echegini Awarded College Soccer’s Top Honor
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Jan. 5, 2024) – Clemson senior forward Ousmane Sylla and Florida State graduate student midfielder Onyi Echegini were named the winners of the 2023 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy, on Friday at the MAC’s annual banquet. Sylla (Dakar, Senegal) had 13 goals, 10 assists and five game winning goals as the Tigers captured their second NCAA Division I National Championship in three years and Echegini (London, England) tallied 37 points on 16 goals and five assists in helping the Seminoles to the NCAA Women’s national title.
Sylla netted the lone goal for the Tigers in the ACC Championship match against North Carolina. He was named a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America selection. In the 2023 MLS Super Draft, Sylla was selected in the second round by Houston. Runners-up for the men’s award were Western Michigan University senior forward Charlie Sharp (Brighton, Mich.) and Wake Forest University senior defender Garrison Tubbs (Brunswick, Ga.)
Echegini posted a career high and ACC-leading 16 goals for the Seminoles on the way to capturing the National Champions. Echegini was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and was the ACC Tournament MVP while picking up United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America honors. This year’s runners up for the women’s award were University of Nebraska senior forward Eleanor Dale (Billingham, England) and Brigham Young senior forward Brecken Mozingo (Sandy, Utah).
The MAC Hermann Trophy, a 10-pound crystal soccer ball awarded annually since 1967, honors the United Soccer Coaches National Players of the Year in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s soccer based on voting conducted by member coaches.

Hermann Trophy to be Awarded to the Top Male and Female Players for the 2023 Season
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Jan. 2, 2024) – The Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy presented by Mungenast St. Louis Acura and Alton Toyota will be awarded to the top male and female collegiate soccer players in the nation on Friday, Jan. 5. The crystal soccer ball trophy represents the highest individual achievement in the sport. Many of the biggest names in American soccer, including Mia Hamm, Christen Press, Claudio Reyna, and Alexi Lalas, have won the award.
The finalists for the 2023 men’s MAC Hermann Trophy are Charlie Sharp (Western Michigan), Ousmane Sylla (Clemson), and Garrison Tubbs (Wake Forest). The finalists for the women’s award are Eleanor Dale (Nebraska), Onyi Echegini (Florida State), and Brecken Mozingo (Brigham Young). Former U.S. National Team standouts Lori Chalupny and Mike Sorber will be the featured speakers.

2023 Men’s MAC Hermann Trophy Finalists Announced

(Dec. 13, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches in partnership with the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) announced on Wednesday the men’s finalists for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy, as the NCAA Division I National Player of the Year. The finalists were determined on voting by the Division I men’s coaches.
The three finalists are Western Michigan University senior forward Charlie Sharp (Brighton, Mich.), Clemson University senior forward Ousmane Sylla (Dakar, Senegal) and Wake Forest University senior defender Garrison Tubbs (Brunswick, Ga.).
Sharp scored 19 goals, had eight assists and had seven game winning goals in leading the Broncos to a 17-1-4 record and third round appearance in the NCAA tournament where they lost to national runner-up Notre Dame on penalty kicks. Sylla had 13 goals, 10 assists and five game winning goals as the Tigers captured their second national NCAA National Championship in three years. Tubbs was the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the only defender named to the ACC first team as he captained the Deamon Deacons to a 11-3-5 and the Atlantic Division conference title.

The finalists were determined on voting by the Division I women’s coaches.
The three finalists are University of Nebraska senior forward Eleanor Dale (Billingham, England), Florida State University graduate midfielder Onyi Echegini (London, England) and Brigham Young senior forward Brecken Mozingo (Sandy, Utah).
Dale was the Big 10 Forward of the Year and led the nation with 28 goals and eight game winning goals. She helped the nationally-ranked Cornhuskers to a 17-4-3 record and a quarterfinal appearance in the NCAA tournament. Echegini was the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, leading the Seminoles to an undefeated season at 22-0-1 and their sixth NCAA National Championship, recording 16 goals and five assists along the way. Mozingo was one of the nation’s leaders in total points with 14 goals and 15 assists for the Cougars and was instrumental in BYU returning to the NCAA College Cup and a 20-3-3 record this season.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Dec. 6, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) have announced the 15 men’s semifinalists for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I Men’s soccer coaches.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Most recently, Duncan McGuire (Creighton) and Michelle Cooper (Duke) received the award for outstanding intercollegiate performances last year.
Highlights from this year’s men’s list include two players who have advanced with their teams to the NCAA Division I Men’s College Cup this weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, including Clemson University senior forward Ousmane Sylla from Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago and University of Notre Dame senior goalkeeper Bryan Dowd form Willow Springs, Illinois. Two schools, Marshall University and Southern Methodist University, both had two players make the elite list.
Three men’s finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 13 after voting by NCAA Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. The 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy winner will then be announced at a press conference at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2024, followed by a dinner to celebrate all of the 2023 finalists.

2023 Women’s MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalists Announced
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Nov. 29, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) have announced the 15 women’s semifinalists for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaches.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Most recently, Duncan McGuire (Creighton) and Michelle Cooper (Duke) received the award for outstanding intercollegiate performances last year.
Highlights from this year's list include three returning semifinalists, Notre Dame senior defender Eva Gaetino, Georgetown GR5 defender Julia Leas, and Brown senior forward Brittany Raphino.
Three women's finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2024, to formally announce this year’s winners.

2023 Men's Hermann Trophy Watch List Announced
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Aug. 24, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches announced the 37 NCAA Men’s Division I college soccer players named to the 2023 Hermann Trophy Watch List on Thursday.
A total of eight of the players on the list earned previous All-America recognition from United Soccer Coaches including: University of Kentucky sophomore goalkeeper Casper Mols, University of Pennsylvania junior defender Leo Burney, University of New Hampshire senior midfielder Yannick Bright, University of Akron junior midfielder Dyson Clapier, Hofstra University junior midfielder Eliot Goldthorp, Ohio State University senior midfielder Laurence Wootton, University of Pennsylvania junior forward Stas Korzeniowski, and Lipscomb University senior forward Tyrese Spicer.
The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation’s highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
The 2023 Women's Hermann Trophy Watch List was announced on Thursday, Aug. 17th.
Fifteen men's players and 15 women's players will become Hermann Trophy semifinalists following completion of Division I All-America voting at the end of the fall season. On December 6th, the three women's finalists will be announced and on December 13th, the men's three finalists will be released.

2023 Women’s Hermann Trophy Watch List
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Aug. 17, 2023) – United Soccer Coaches announced the 56 NCAA Women’s Division I college soccer players named to the 2023 Hermann Trophy Watch List on Thursday.
Highlighting this year's watch list are eight Hermann semi-finalists from last year returning to play this fall: Senior defender Eva Gaetino (University of Notre Dame), senior defender Lyndsey Heckel (Saint Louis University), fifth-year senior defender Julia Leas (Georgetown University), junior midfielder Hannah Bebar (Harvard University), fifth-year senior midfielder Croix Bethune (University of Georgia), senior midfielder Lia Godfrey (University of Virginia), junior forward Trinity Byars (University of Texas), and senior forward Brittany Raphino (Brown University). Leas and Bethune are taking advantage of the NCAA decision granting an additional season of competition for student-athletes following the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic during the 2020-21 academic year.
